RUBBLE from a landslide, which occurred some nine moths ago, is still causing delays at Lendalfoot.

The incident happened in January following the collapse of a mass of earth or rock from the hills which sit next to the A77.

Concerns have been raised about the debris which is still lying on the road, causing a build up in traffic.

Traffic lights to control congestion have been in place since the beginning of the year but members of the A77 Action Group are annoyed the situation has not been addressed sooner.

They say that it is a waste of public money to ignore the situation and remove the lights.

John Campbell, a campaigner with the A77 Action Group, said: "There are landslides at Lendalfoot and nothing is being done about it.

"There have been temporary traffic lights in place since January. Just north of Cairnryan, there have been 'temporary' traffic lights up since for four years.

"We don't know why it has taken four years and they are wasting so much money by leaving them there.

"There are 26 ferries a day, from Larne to Cairnryan, and thousands of vehicles including lorries and cars which travel north on the A77 past the Lendalfoot landslide.

"They are delayed by the traffic lights there which are costing thousands of pounds. When they do tidy up the landslide it will take four or five days and this should have been completed in January.

"Thousands must have been spend on traffic lights over the past four years at Cairnryan."

As well as their campaign for a duel carriageway from Whitletts roundabout in Ayr to Stranraer, members of the A77 Action Group want the landslide to be addressed at Lendalfoot and for the traffic lights to be removed

It is hoped this can be completed sooner rather than later.
