THE DAILLY Arts Project has brought together South Carrick Communities in a bid to enhance walks in the area.

With the summer holidays well underway, there is still time to embrace the work of the community council who decided to enhance the walks with works of art, benches, way markers and eye-catching village sculptures.

Nigel Ross made the benches, which are carved from timber, gifted by the Bargany and Kilkerran Estates. Jimmy Ritchie designed and made the waymarkers to reflect local history and the then current debate on land reform and access.

He talked to children at Dailly Primary School and the Oak Leaf and Tramway markers were developed from their ideas.

The approach to this project was discussed initially with leaders and the context was to include locally relevant historical, environmental, geographical and cultural aspects incorporating the scouting theme but led by the scouts, cubs and beavers themselves.

It is hoped the public use of the space will also benefit from the positive aesthetic impact and reflect the Scout’s strong community identity within the village.

There are many artistic paths and routes to be explored this summer. More information about the Dailly Trails is available from Girvan Town House tourist information.
