LAST season, Carrick rugby development team revamped the delivery to the four main feeder primaries to both the school rugby and the club rugby.

They decided that Gardenrose Primary, Dalrymple Primary, Girvan Primary and Cairn Primary should receive six weeks of coaching pre-Christmas.

They would then take part in two tournaments - one at Cairn Primary and one at Girvan Primary – which had over 100 pupils playing contact rugby.

After Christmas, they received another six weeks of coaching with another two tournaments with Gardenrose claiming over all victory.

Michael Kirk, Carrick Youth Development Manager, told us: “The quality of rugby shown by the young athletes after just 12 weeks of learning was outstanding.

“Carrick Rugby would firstly like to thank The McKinstry Company who made this all possible with their kind sponsorship of the tournament and would like to congratulate all the pupils who took part and congratulate Gardenrose on the victory.

“We hope to see them all pull on the black and blue in the future.”
