He told the court that Johnston and his partner arrived at Craig Tara on May 22, having been ‘drinking for four days’.

He said: “At 8pm the pair were in the caravan and the accused began accusing the complainer of infidelity calling her a “dirty trot”, “bitch” and a “cow” – this continued throughout the evening.

“The complainer tried to ignore him and went to bed and the following morning the accused was apologetic and said he wouldn’t drink again, [however] at 4pm, the accused began to drink again.

“At 8pm the complainer and the accused left the entertainment area – at this time the accused said he wanted to do something with his son but the complainer said he was too drunk. An argument began and the accused said, “you are going to get a slap” which was overheard by security.

“Whilst in the caravan, the accused’s eldest started crying and he then blamed this on his partner and said he was going to ‘teach her a lesson’.

“The accused grabbed the complainer by the hair and threw her to the ground.

“The complainer punched the accused to get him off her and got out of the caravan.

“The accused came outside and grabbed the complainer by the hair and threw her about the grassed area and kicked her as she lay on the ground.

“The complainer got to her feet and went to the reception area where she informed members of security team and they contacted the police.”

Mr McLean, added: “The accused approached security where the security placed their hand on the accused’s chest and he said “Get your hands off me, I have got an open blade’.

The police attended and the accused was arrested and taken to Ayr Police Station. Whilst the accused was in the cell passage way he spat on a police witness and shouted at another police witness saying “English bast**d”, “p**fs” and shouted, “I’m going to stick a knife in your f**king throat.”

Defence solicitor Mr McAllister, said: “Right from the outset, these are very serious charges.

“I understand that custody who be at the forefront of your mind my lady, and my client recognises how serious this is.

“My client is 32 years old and is in full time employment and he earns £350 per week.

“His problem is alcohol and he was consuming it for three or four days before the incident and he fully accepts his guilt.

“He is now seeking help for his drinking and attends services – he hasn’t consumed any drink since this incident.”

Sheriff McTaggart told Johnston: “I understand that you recognise the seriousness of this and the highlighted issues.

“You drink too much and when you’re drunk, you get angry which has to be addressed.

“I will take a step back from custody and issue you a community payback order and you will perform unpaid work within 12 months. If you breach this, believe you me, you could end up in custody.”

Johnston was given a community payback order, 210 hours of unpaid work and 13 months supervision.
