GIRVAN and her surrounding villages will come together at the end of the month to celebrate Armed Forces Day.

On Saturday, June 24 veterans along with their friends and families will assemble at Stumpy Towers at 1pm to the sound of the pipes. This is the third year of the event which has been well supported by veterans groups and townsfolk themselves.

In order to set the scene, Rev. Ian McLachlan was say a few words before the flag is raised by representatives from organisations under the supervision of Roddy Leitch.

He and his wife have agreed to help provide uniforms and flags for the occasion. A prayer and the benediction will be said by Rev. McLauchlan before the final sound of the pipes.

There will be a final vote of thanks from Colonel John Dalrymple-Hamilton, Vice Lord-Lieutenant and principle speaker.
The Town House is already booked to serve tea, coffee and cake after the event.

Roddy MacDonald, Girvan town team coordinator, said: “I already have veterans coming back to me to say they are coming. There are more people coming to the Girvan celebration than the one in Ayr.”

Irene Climie, Chair of the Girvan Town Team, stated: “The Town Team is proud to support Armed Forces Day and we hope that the Town will turnout in good numbers to recognise the service given to our Country by our Service personnel both past and present.”

Uniformed Organisations are welcome to participate in the occasion. Should you wish to know more about the event then please contact Roddy MacDonald, Girvan Town Team Coordinator, on 07720540083.
