HANSEL’S Race Day was celebrated as being officially the “best ever” raising an astonishing amount of money.

The event, held at Ayr Racecourse on Wednesday, May 24, raised an incredible £17,138.70 for the charity.

More than 180 people attended, with a drinks reception overlooking the race-course and a four course lunch in the Chancellor restaurant in the Princess Royal Stand.

One of the big highlights of the day was the Grand Prize Draw for a weekend for two in Prague, which was won by Lisa Neilson from Worksmart Contracts, who were celebrating 15 years in business.

Ayr Advertiser:

Auction prizes that were to be won included: a gin afternoon tea for four courtesy of the Red Bus Bistro, two VIP tickets for James Arthur donated by QTS, hospitality at the Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open for two people and a afternoon tea and pamper day for two in the new spa at Lochgreen House Hotel gifted by Costley & Costley.

Sheila McLean, Hansel’s fundraising manager, said: “There is nothing to beat the atmosphere on a Hansel Race Day and this year’s was the best yet - everyone had a terrific time and really let their hair down and got into the spirit of things.

“I am always amazed at how generous our guests are - not only buying their tickets but also donating to the charity raffles and taking part in the auction.

“I would especially like to express our gratitude to all those who donated prizes, we could not run events like this without their help and of course the team at Ayr Racecourse who made sure the day ran like clockwork.”
