A BOY was pulled out from the River Ayr by an unsung hero, last week.

The young boy had slipped on the embankment of the River Ayr near to Holmston Road in the morning of Wednesday, May 24.

Luckily, a passerby, who is known to be a sports student at the University of the West of Scotland, bravely jumped in and saved the youngster.

A spokesman for Scottish Fire and Rescue, said: “Firefighters were called to a stretch of the River Ayr in Ayr on Wednesday, May 24, following a report of a male who was seen in the water.

“The alarm was raised at 8:32am resulting in two water rescue units and two fire appliances being immediately mobilised to the scene off Holmston Road.

“A passing member of the public helped remove the male from the river prior to the arrival of fire crews and he was thereafter taken to hospital.”
