PLANNING permission has been renewed to renovate Barrhill Memorial Hall.

An application was previously submitted to South Ayrshire Council at the beginning of the year and now that it has been accepted it will be up to the owners to move forward with the project.

The issue was discussed at a recent community council meeting in the village and was highlighted by Celia Strain. The aim is to alter and refurbish the existing Barrhill Memorial Hall and to re-establish the building as a focal point.

Much attention has been devoted to understanding the historic role of the Memorial Hall and both its architectural and social significance in Barrhill.

The hall was originally designed by the notable Scottish architect James Miller and it is a priority to preserve a building in this Arts and Crafts architectural style, which was rarely employed by Miller.

Planners -Anderson Bell and Christie - have designed an extension which provides a new public entrance, a new kitchen and a multi-functional community space; all designed to welcome people in.

This new design provides spaces for existing community functions and allows the possibility for new uses and groups to develop.

The environmental performance of the building was improved and issues of sustainability addressed through thorough upgrades of the buildings fabric.

Barrhill Memorial Hall was previously sold the community association earlier this year. The council relinquished had the lease and the Barrhill Memorial Hall Community Association (BWMCA) had their offer accepted.

A justgiving page has been set up by the community association who hope to 'advance citizenship or community development, provide recreational facilities, organise recreational activities.

There is not a specific group the service is intended for. Barrhill Memorial Hall Community Association Registered charity number is SC041406.
