A PRESTWICK woman has been voted as this years Hansel Superhero.
Jan Carr, was chosen for the role, which was part of the many celebrations taking place to mark Hansel Day on Friday, April 28.
The newest superhero has raised money for Hansel through sales of her craft items as she is a keen sewer and she has recently started volunteering in Hansel’s artisan gift shop in Prestwick.
The local community were encouraged to nominate people they believed were worthy of being Hansel’s superhero.
Jan said: “I get so much out of volunteering and crafting is a labour of love for me as I find happiness in every stitch.
“I am really over the moon to have received this community award and I greatly admire the work Hansel undertakes for so many families across Ayrshire.”
Celebrating the third annual Hansel Day, businesses and organisations throughout Ayrshire pledged their support by hosting their own bake sales and customers, staff and supporters were invited to a coffee morning and bake sale at the charity’s headquarters in Broadmeadows, Symington and a simultaneous get-together was also held at the Hi Street store.
The total amount raised from the coffee mornings came to £359.85, which helped to celebrate Hansel Day.
Sheila McLean, fundraising manager, said: “We are always overwhelmed by the support we receive and Hansel Day has been no exception.
“People have been busy baking and donating but it’s also just been great to see people come together over a coffee and join in.
“We’re looking forward to seeing everyone’s fantastic cake pictures on social media.”
