THE SEARCH for the next Hansel community local champion to follow the footsteps of last year’s winner, will be announced this week.

Prestwick’s Scott Nicol, who won the award for his relentless efforts to help others, was the first person to take on the honour and urged locals to get behind the award scheme and nominate who they think could be worthy of the title.

The talented musician said: “I was really surprised that my name was in the hat at all and was amazed when I was told I had won last year, it was such a honour and something I will always remember.

“I hope lots of people havefilled in nomination forms as there are so many people out there whose hard work deserves to be recognised.

The charity will make their announcement on Friday, April 28 at their store, HI Street, in Prestwick.

Scott impressed judges last year with his commitment to helping young people to find their voice through his free song writing courses and his passion to pass on his experience to the next generation of artists - mentoring them as they take their first steps into the music industry.

He also regularly busks and plays concerts to help raise funds for local charities such as Hansel and is an active member of the New Life Church in Prestwick.

Gerry Lindsay, managing director of Hansel, said: “With the world such a turbulent place at the moment it is good to stop and remember that there are lots of really good people out there."
