THE ANNUAL Girvan Rotary beach clean took place last week.
This year the event had two locations, Girvan south beach and Girvan north beach.

The 46 volunteers began the work in the morning, with Girvan Scouts, Girvan Cubs and Girvan Beavers, Members of Girvan Rotary, members of Girvan North and Scout Parish Churches, members of Girvan Musical Society, Nursery teachers and retired dentists helping make Girvan’s beaches better.

Alistair Wallace of Girvan Rotary Club, said: "We had the oldest ‘Ayrshire Rotarian litter picker’ on the beach, in the form of Mr. Peter Noble who this year was 90-years-old.

"This event was organised by myself and it was a welcome change to have a dry, calm day and after a few very wet windy beach cleans in the last few years .

"Mrs Margaret Murdoch who organised the north beach clean was delighted to see so many people at her location.

"The litter came in all shapes and sizes, from plastic bottles to tyres, to wood to plastic bags and they were all collected.

"The Rotary would like to thank those who turned up. It was the biggest number for many many years.

"The Rotary would also like to thank the council for providing the bags for the job and picking up the collected litter after the event."
