SPECIALIST hearing dogs visited an audiologists in Ayr to help raise awareness of hearing loss.

The working dogs, who assist those with hearing impairments, visited Specsavers Audiologists in the town alongside representatives from charity Hearing Dogs for Deaf People.

Customers and staff at the store raised almost £40 for the charity which trains dogs to alert deaf people to sounds they would otherwise miss, including the doorbell, alarm clocks and fire alarms.

Thomas Allison, Specsavers' clinical audiologist in Ayr says: "The Hearing Dogs were very popular with our customers.

"It was a delight to have them in the store for a few hours and their presence really helped to demonstrate the fantastic work the charity carries out to assist those with a hearing impairment.

"The charity’s clever dogs not only help to save lives, but provide a sense of independence and confidence to their companions."
