GIRVAN Youth Trust has received praised from South Scotland MSP following a visit to their base in the town's Dalrymple Street.

MSP Brian Whittle has given his backing to the work of Girvan Youth Trust following his visit.

During his visit, Brian was given a tour of the building which houses the Z1 Youth Bar as well as space for Arts and Crafts classes, outdoor space and a stage and performance area.

Z1 Youth Bar is a disabled accessible, non-alcoholic bar offering young people in Girvan and the surrounding area a comfortable, safe space to meet friends as well as take advantage of the wide range of events and activities run by GYT.

Speaking about the visit, Brian Whittle MSP said:“Girvan Youth Trust are doing fantastic work here. It was a pleasure to see around their building and to sit down with some of the staff who make all of this possible.

"Organisations like Girvan Youth Trust make a huge contribution to both the young people who come through their doors but also the wider community.

"One of the most important things I can do as an MSP is to recognise and highlight the valuable work being done by organisations like GYT.

"I’m delighted to be able to offer them my support and hope to be able to get more involved with some of their projects in the future.”

Girvan Youth Trust's project manager, Bill Logan MBE, added: "“Everyone involved with Girvan Youth Trust thank Brain Whittle MSP for his visit and endorsement of our grassroots engagement with young people residing in Girvan and South Carrick.

"Residing in a geographically isolated and recognised social and economic area of high deprivation has unfortunately resulted in too many of our local young people becoming increasingly despondent and without direction in their Life’s Journey.

"Everyone of today’s young people has the potential to make a difference, it is therefore crucial that they are continually supported by the adult community and in particular by the Scottish Government and all other statutory and voluntary bodies and corporate businesses that are best placed to help them achieve their full potential and goals in life."
