A HOUSING application to demolish and rebuild a home at Turnberry has been withdrawn following objection from neighbours.

Had the proposal been successful, at 1 Girvan Road, it would have seen the erection of a house and garage at the site. But there were at least two objections from local residents.

David Wheeler, who lives on Drumrow Road, wrote to the council to express his concern. He said: "The site of 1 Girvan Road has seen a new house being built in the last 10 years.

"The original cottage was knocked down and a new house built, although it was never completed and no one ever moved in. The site has been in a very scruffy state since 2008 and we are concerned that another new build will also be an extended one with all the problems associated with having a building site right on your doorstep."

Other concerns filed were the traffic congestion the development would bring, lack or parking for construction workers and delivery lorries finding it difficult to park and turn around.

Mr Wheeler continued: "Previous construction work has made it very difficult for locals on Drumdow Road to pass the building site.

"The local farming community uses Drumdow Road extensively to haul machinery to the fields adjacent to Turnberry beach so the impact is not just to one sector of the community.

"Windblown rubbish associated with the build has been made worse by the extended period of the build

and the fact that the site has never been tidied up, even by the current owners who have owned it for the last three years.

"This does not give a lot of confidence that a new build will done in a tidy and environmentally friendly manner."

In the meantime the application has been withdrawn.
