GIRVAN Town Team has has progressed from a constituted model to a fully fledged Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation. (SCIO)

Over the past 12 months they have taken on many projects to benefit members of the local community and are looking to expand on their success. 

They have taken steps to create a dementia friendly community and have developed an action plan with key stakeholders and manage the steps required to make Girvan a model of best practice.

This priority has made some significant progress. The Town Team secured funding to support a joint initiative with the NHS and the University of the West of Scotland. 

A strategic approach has been agreed with partners including the appointment of a researcher, Dr. Gillian Hendry, who will engage with individuals and Focus Groups identified by the group as part of the process of leading to an action plan for 2017 and beyond.

Health and Wellbeing Programmes - in partnership with key stakeholders - are on track develop a range of funding bids and programmes to benefit the health and wellbeing of the Girvan Community.

This priority has made significant progress. Funding was secured from the Integrated Care Fund monitored by VASA. 

The funding has ensured the continuation of the Reminiscence Group, the art activities of the Little Art School and Walking Football in South Carrick during 2016 and into 2017.

Girvan Town Team has made significant progress with their counselling support point in partnership with the South Carrick Community Learning Partnership which will be a motivational resource to Girvan adults and with Scottish Charity Number: SC046542.

Over 20 interventions were made during last year for both those in employment and those unemployed. The interventions resulted in the formation of c.v.s and advice on interview techniques. 

A number of the clients gained alternative employment during 2016.
