Education for children in one of South Ayrshire’s rural communities has been transformed following the opening of Dailly Primary School.

South Ayrshire Council has now welcomed the first generation of children to the new school, which opened on Wednesday, March 1.

The two-storey school replaces three separate buildings with a single structure that has space for 100 pupils.

The school has also been designed to accommodate 30 children in an integrated Early Years Centre, something that allows three and four year olds to attend in a single session.

The main contractor for the project was Morrison Construction.
The £3.8million project is part of a £94million pipeline of works being delivered across South Ayrshire in the next 18 months.

Councillor Margaret Toner, Portfolio Holder for Lifelong Learning, said the new building was a great example of targeted investment making a real difference.

She added: “This fantastic new building will act as a resource for the whole community, with generations of children standing to benefit from a bright, new school that will transform the standard of education.

“Looking around, it is plain to see the children are already settling in fast, with this custom built facility helping the school to do things in different ways that will bring learning to life.

“We’re committed to helping our rural communities to thrive and this new school forms part of a much wider programme of investment across South Ayrshire that is helping to deliver a lasting legacy through a modernised schools portfolio.”

Louise McDonald, Headteacher at Dailly Primary, said moving in to the new school had proved to be an exciting time, adding: “It’s been a hectic few weeks but I’m pleased to say we’ve now made the big move and so far everything has gone to plan.

“The new building will make a huge difference to the quality of education we can provide with the custom-made surroundings complementing the hard work of our dedicated staff.

“I’d like to thank everyone at the school and in the community for their patience and continuing support and look forward to building on our good work in our new home.”
