AN APPLICATION to alter and extend Barrhill's listed building Ballochmorrie House has been submitted to South Ayrshire Council.

Ballochmorrie House, which is listed as Grade B, sits on the A714 in order to modernise and improve its layout and adapt it to 21st Century living.

The principal block of the house was built by W. McAdam in1833 onto an earlier building, the current kitchen.

The front elevation of the principal block is ashlar fronted with two splayed bays flanking a central columned porch.

In the late 19th or 20th centuries the house was further extended to the north in brick with cement harling and has a slated roof.

Internal alterations, mainly concentrate on the rear including a new back stair, rearrangement of the service rooms and the provision of additional bathrooms at first floor.

A new single storey kitchen extension to the west is also proposed. The existing screen wall to the current service courtyard is partially raise and retained to mask the new kitchen extension.

An earlier pre-application submitted in June 2014 proposed retaining the front elevation and principal block of the house and then carefully take down the whole of the rear wing back to the McAdam block.

The proposal now being submitted retains all the current structures with the exception of the present single storey boiler room on the east side at the junction of the McAdam block to the rear buildings which will be demolished.

The principal new addition will be the single storey kitchen wing to the west. This was previously proposed at a meeting with David Hearton on March 21, 2015.

Full planning and Listed Building applications were submitted in September/October 2016 but, following comments from Historic Scotland and an email exchange with David Hearton, both applications were withdrawn.

At first floor accommodation in north wing will provide four additional bedrooms and bathrooms.

The proposal now shows the screen wall partially retained, sufficiently to mask the kitchen extension, for which purpose it will also be raised following the existing random rubble

construction.

A new door opening will formed through the wall from the kitchen.

Current access to the west side of the house will be removed and incorporated into the landscape as it is deemed restricted and dangerous.

The existing access around the south front of the house will be retained with an extension of the drive to the east side to allow disabled access to the rear entrance and lift.

The application is being considered. It is not yet clear when a decision will be made.
