A VIOLENT thug smashed a pint glass over the head of a regular in a village pub because he gave evidence against one of his friends.

Barry Filson was sitting at a table having a drink in the Dalmellington Inn, Dalmellington, when he was attacked by Mark McSorley.

The blow to the back of his head knocked Mr Filson to the ground.

Jim Kelman, prosecuting, told Ayr Sheriff Court last week: "Police and paramedics attended. Mr Filson had sustained a head abrasion which was examined by the paramedics who cleaned up the wound."
