A PUMA is thought to stalking the South Ayrshire hillside after it attacked a horse in Coylton, near to Sundrum Holiday Park.

Police are appealing for witnesses after the horse was left badly injured sometime during Friday, July 17.

On Friday morning the owner attended to his horses and noticed that one of them had been badly injured. He contacted a local vet who carried out an examination and revealed the injuries appeared to have been inflicted by a wild animal rather than by a human.

The owner then contacted the police and officers sought the expertise of several specialists who analysed pictures of the injuries in an effort to determine the cause. Those experts believe the injuries caused to the horse have been made by a big cat, possibly a Puma.
