A FAMILY"S missing dog has been found dead after a heartbreaking two-day search.

Heather Hood and family, including her two young children, were devastated after their Staff-cross dog Sandy went missing during a day out at Greenan Castle last Saturday afternoon.

The Lochside family searched for hours, checking all the local beaches before printing off leaflets with a picture of Sandy in the hope that someone would find her.

They even came to the Ayr Advertiser Series for help in finding her, offering a £50 reward.

But it was tragic news as Sandy was found washed up on Prestwick beach days later.

Speaking to us yesterday, Heather said: 'It"s getting better since we found her. We think she got tangled in a lobster pot, fishermen from Dunure pulled her up on Sunday and they didn"t know we were looking for her so she washed up on Tuesday morning on Prestwick beach.

'I feel a lot better knowing it was something like that rather than it being something else as it was so out of character for her to go missing.

'It makes it easier for us to cope with it.'
