More Money Needed for Ayr's Burns Museum
Multi-million pound shortfall
FUNDING for Alloway"s Burns Museum still has a £3.8million shortfall despite multi-million pound pledges.
It is estimated that the total amount needed to finance the Robert Burns museum - which has been planned to open next summer - is £21million.
So far the Heritage Lottery Fund has granted £5.8million, a further £5.5million contribution has come from the Scottish Government, £250,000 from Scottish Enterprise Ayrshire and an estimated £2.885million worth of land in Alloway from South Ayrshire Council for the site.
The National Trust for Scotland has to raise the £7million with approximately £3.8million remaining.
To aid in narrowing the shortfall the University of the West of Scotland has donated a statuette of "Coila", the muse who appears in Robert Burns"s poem "The Vision", to the NTS.
