Brave Brian: Ayr Academy Teen Nominee Cares for Ill Mother

A TEENAGER from Coylton who works tirelessly for several youth projects while caring for his ill mum has been nominated for a major award.

18-year-old Brian Borland could be set for £6,000 prize money if he is announced Buchanan"s of Scotland Young Person of the Year.

Brian was nominated by his proud dad Jonathan but was also given glowing references from South Ayrshire youth workers.

Currently a member of the Scottish Youth Parliament (MSYP) representing South Ayrshire, Brian"s youth work started long before he was elected.

Brian, who stays at Laighpark Road, has been involved in many youth projects with his proudest being involved in the Dundonald Castle movie where youngsters made a film about life in the castle in the 14th century.

Speaking about why he does all this youth work and the Dundonald film, Brian said: 'This project cost £28,000 and looks really good, For me, I learn new skills. It also helps the community come together as young people look up to me and ask how they can get involved.'
