SCHOOL CLOSURES: The current Ayr Grammar could be sold to create a 21st century school in Seafield

SCHOOLS across South Ayrshire are set for drastic change with many facing closures and mergers.

There also could be new schools for the area - as we revealed previously.

The news was given in a "Planning for Improvement" report at last week"s Leadership Panel with members saying they wanted 21st century schools.

A massive campus could soon see Catholic schoolkids in Ayr, Prestwick, Maybole and Mossblown, from five to 18 years, travelling to Queen Margaret Academy while Carrick Academy may be merged with Gardenrose and Cairn Primaries.

In Girvan Sacred Heart Primary and Invergarden School have both been listed as not fit for purpose and may be incorporated into one.

In Ayr consultation has been underway to discuss its closure and possible move or merger of Whitletts Primary while Ayr Grammar may also be on the move to the former Seafield Hospital site with council officer"s not yet sure if they would have to keep the hospital"s former facade.

Marr College in Troon may also be on the move as council officers look at whether to refurbish or to build a new school.
