Green Light for Prestwick's Sainsbury's
Food giants' job boost wins over leisure complaints
CENTRUM MEETING: Concerned residents recently packed into the Prestwick meeting to find out what's going on
THE green light has been given for Sainsbury"s to redevelop the Centrum site following unanimous approval by the council.
The decision comes just weeks after 140 residents packed into an evening meeting Prestwick Academy demanding that the sports centre be redeveloped with Sainbury"s paying for a new complex.
However the supermarket will now be coming to Prestwick and they have promised to upgrade or create two new sport pitches.
On the go-ahead Sainsbury"s national development surveyor for Scotland, Paul Miller said: 'We couldn"t be happier that South Ayrshire Council has agreed planning permission for our proposals. For the past two years we have continuously worked within the local community to produce the best possible plans for Prestwick and we are keen to move forward to the next stage of the development process.
'From the responses provided it is clear that residents are keen to see variety, competition and quality shopping made more available in Prestwick and Sainsbury"s is looking forward to providing this.'
