A CAMPAIGN has started for a more frequent train service between Ayr and Glasgow.

It is hoped that a 20-minute service can be introduced which could lead to a boost of visitors.

Ayr MSP John Scott has pressed successive transport Minister for a more frequent service, believing that the improvement is necessary both to provide a better service for local commuters and to help boost the economy of South Ayrshire.

Mr Scott said: 'The line between Ayr and Glasgow is one of the busiest commuter routes in Scotland and I am convinced that the introduction of a more frequent service, to at least one every 20 minutes, would be a real boost to our area.

'Many local people commute between Ayr, Prestwick, Troon and Glasgow on a daily basis and we need to further expand the use of rail as a convenient and environmentally-friendly means of transport locally."
