Elderly Lady is Conned Inside her Own Ayr Home
Police warn people to be on guard after rat strikes
HOUSEHOLDERS across South Ayrshire are being warned to be on the look out for bogus callers as an elderly Ayr woman is conned.
Police are asking everyone to be on their guard as bogus callers can strike at anytime, but at this time of the year it tends to increase.
The call comes at the same time as a man managed to gain entry to the house of an elderly woman in Mainholm Road, Ayr.
While in the house the man stole the purse belonging to the elderly householder before leaving the house and getting into the passenger seat of a grey coloured car which made its way from the house.
PC Tom Graham, of the Community Safety Department at Ayr Police Office, said 'In previous years at this time of year there has been an increase in the reports of bogus callers attending at houses in the area.
'A number of reasons will be given by the bogus caller to try to gain entry to your property and also to gain your confidence. A main theme is to offer to carry out work be it in your garden or on your property at what seems to be a very good price. This price often ends up being extortionate by the time the work is complete."
