People Power with Petition for Maybole Bypass Hope
PRESSURE mounted on the Scottish Government to commit to a Maybole bypass as a petition signed by 4,500 residents was personally handed in.
The fight for a bypass around the town has been going for 50-years.
Now Transport Minister Stewart Stevenson has been handed the petition calling for a timetable for a bypass and for further safety improvements on the southern A77.
The petition was organised by Bill Grant, a current councillor for Ayr West and a hopeful General Election candidate for Ayr, Carrick and Cumnock.
Fellow conservative John Scott, who handed in the names, said: 'The petition backing a bypass for Maybole and more improvements to the A77 south of Ayr has been a huge success."
