Royal Visitor Drops into Dalmellington
Princess Anne opens the new carers' support facility
A NEW Dalmellington centre that is designed to allow unpaid carers to take a rest was treated to a royal visit last week.
Dalmellington House is a unique location for carers in the rural area offering support, advice and training and will be run by the Princess Royal Trust.
And last week"s official opening ceremony was attended by the Princess Royal herself, Anne who was given a special tour of the new complex.
At the centre carers will be able to enjoy all the benefits of a five-star hotel and the support of staff who understand the pressures carers face. The respite service will be run by a social enterprise company.
Chief executive for the Princess Royal Trust centre, Jane Smith said: 'Dalmellington House will be of benefit not only to the local community but also carers throughout Scotland and the rest of the UK. It will give new hope to many young carers and help to change lives.'
Dalmellington House will also be used as a training and employability centre for young carers aged 14 to 19 who aren"t in education, employment or training. This part of the centre"s work will be funded by Inspiring Scotland, which has provided the centre with £2.5million.
On her visit the HRH was accompanied by the Lord Lieutenant of Ayrshire and Arran, John Duncan QMP. On arrival, she meet Provost Stephanie Irons-Young and deputy chief executive Elizabeth Morton from East Ayrshire Council.
