Plans to turn an Ayr law office into a residential property have been approved.

Alistair Lambert, the sole partner of Lambert and Co, had applied for permission for a change of use for the office in Cathcart Street.

The building is category C listed and is located within the central Ayr conservation area.

The owner is currently looking to sell the building, with planning approval for a home in place, with all the firm's operations moving to their current Girvan office.

Planning officers from South Ayrshire Council said that the proposals for minor internal changes would not impact on the character of the listed building.

The planning decision states: "The application proposes internal alterations to the listed building.

"Specifically, a partition wall and door shall be removed from the ground floor and a kitchen installed and the first floor shall have an ensuite installed and a partition wall removed

"In this instance, it is considered that the affected spaces are of secondary importance and the alterations are acceptable changes to the layout and are not considered to adversely impact the original features of the building.

"Furthermore, the original layout will not be compromised in the long-term. Overall, the proposed alterations are minor in nature and are not considered to affect the character or special interest of the listed building."

Under a statutory condition of all planning permissions, the works must start within three years.
