A new gigantic screen has been installed at the new Astoria cinema in Ayr as its grand reopening date nears.

Merlin Cinemas took over the former Odeon venue last year, which has undergone a major renovation ahead of its public reopening.

The cinema will now open its doors on Friday, March 29, with tickets now available to book for the first run of films.

Kung Fu Panda 4, Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire and Dune: Part Two are among the first films to be shown in the revamped cinema.

Tickets are now available to book online, with in-person and telephone ticket sales available when the cinema opens on March 29.

The firm has now installed a new 32-foot screen ready to show the biggest movies and some classic on when it reopens next week.

A spokesperson said: "Brand new 32 foot Panavision screen just installed. Phew...it's been stuck in customs for about a week.

"We were getting worried as we'd thrown the smaller old screen into the skip!"
