A SPANISH tutor for kids in Ayrshire is looking to expand her popular classes in Ayr after being nominated for an award.

Amy Bell has been running her franchise of Kids Lingo teaching children from as young as one years old how to speak Spanish.

From singing classic nursery rhymes for pre-school kids to games to role play scenarios and stories for primary school pupils.

Her efforts and growing popularity has helped the business be awarded for the UK What’s On 4 Kids awards in the category for Most Loved Academic or Creative Activity.

Amy told the Ayr Advertiser: “It’s great. It feels like a nice time for the business. We have been running since October 2017. We’ve now got 300 children each week across different venues, across nurseries, across schools.”

It’s not just kids who are enjoying the classes are Amy has received a huge response from parents who are picking up the lingo too.

Amy added: “We have so much feedback from parents who say it’s the first time in their lives they have been able to pick up the language.”

because it’s becoming relevant to their lives at that point. They are coming along to the Spanish classes they are getting a flavour of it.

“At pre-school we do a lot of nursery rhymes, we do a lot of role play and stories. I would do the hungry caterpillar so that’s introducing food vocabulary. It’s introducing colours, all these kinds of things.

“Once you move into the infants, they are starting to understand the language, so they are asking questions, they are creating questions and then once they get to the upper end of primary school they are starting to investigate it a bit more.

“The structure of sentences in Spanish. It’s all done with fun. We do games, do plays do music, we always keep that element of fun.”
