Education bosses at South Ayrshire Council backed the Parent Council’s response and branded the League Tables “outdated and wrong”.

A spokeswoman told the Ayr Advertiser: “We fully support the Parent Council’s position on so-called league tables and the need to recognise what all of our young people in schools are achieving – not just those who are sitting five Highers.

“Taking an approach that ignores the achievements and successes of so many young people in our schools is ineffective, outdated and – quite frankly – wrong.

“We know young people from all our schools go on to enjoy a wide range of positive destinations in further education, training and employment and we’re proud to do everything we can to help them get there.

“We applaud the Ayr Academy Parent Council for standing up for the school, our staff and – most importantly – our young people.”
