AYR Rotary Club welcomed a fascinating talk from local man Alexander Hall who is an expert on the highly regarded Victoria Cross (VC) medal.
The (VC) was born in the carnage of the Crimean War and is the highest award of the United Kingdom honours system. It is awarded for gallantry “in the face of the enemy” to members of the British Armed Forces.
Alex’s presentation had an amazing store of interesting facts at his disposal and said that the VC has been awarded 1,358 times to 1,355 individual recipients.
Alex also paid personal tributes to a number of holders of the VC, including young men who had seen recent action in Afghanistan and Iraq.
