SOUTH Ayrshire Police launched their road safety campaign last week to tackle and educate drivers who ignore basic driving rules.

Common offences being highlighted are speeding, using mobile phones and not wearing a seatbelt. The campaign has been running from the Road Policing Division with support from the Safety Camera units.

Police Sergeant Jamie Lyall, of Locality Policing, said: “Our teams will be promoting road safety across South Ayrshire with a real focus on positively educating driver behaviour and making our roads even safer.

“We had officers out in and around Symington to address community concerns in relation to speeding – four drivers were given advice regarding their speed and one driver was issued with a fixed penalty ticket for speeding.

“I would like to take this opportunity to ask drivers to consider their own vehicle making sure that all basic driving documentation is in order and that we all make sure to obey road safety rules and regulations.

“If you have any local concerns about road safety I would also ask that you come and speak with us at your local police station, contact us via 101 or 999 in an emergency or alternatively speak with us at your local community council meeting”.
