NEW FIGURES reveal that nearly 8,000 people waited too long at NHS Ayrshire and Arran A&E departments.
The figures from the Scottish Government revealed that 7,718 waited more than four hours at A&E with 1938 waiting more than 8 and 513 waiting over 12.
MSP Colin Smyth explained how disappointing these figures are. He said: “Patients and staff across Ayrshire deserve better than this.
“There has been considerable pressure put onto NHS Ayrshire and Arran and these staggering figures expose the scale of the challenge NHS staff face.
“We already know that staff do not feel they are getting enough support and that the level of unfilled health posts is unsustainable. Ministers set the health service targets for staff to hit and then do not deliver the support and resources needed. It simply isn’t good enough.”
