EX-AYR United star Dean Keenan has taken a scathing swipe at the Honest Men after their Scottish Cup exit to Auchinleck – branding it the WORST result in the club’s history.

The former Ayr hero, who made over 100 appearances for the Ayrshire side between 2007 and 2012, slammed Ian McCall and his players on Twitter after the weekend’s 1-0 defeat.

In a strongly worded statement, Keenan, 33, was keen to point out that Ayr’s reserve squad should’ve been able to see off the Juniors.

He said: “Over the last eight to 10 years of living in Ayr, or indeed playing with Ayr, there were always whispers coming from Auchinleck about them being equal, if not better than Ayr Utd.

“Ian McCall and his players had the opportunity to put this notion to bed once and for all on Saturday and failed miserably.

“Ayr U20s should be able to go to Auchinleck and win.

“The reason behind the failure in my opinion is down to a massive lack of professionalism. “They had beat Beith comfortably in the previous round – Talbot would be no different… how wrong were they!

“What I can’t quite fathom is how Auchinleck looked fitter, better organised and more importantly, had more quality.”

The Troon player then aimed fire at McCall himself, accusing him of not doing his homework on one of the Junior game’s best teams.

He added: “Had he even watched Auchinleck play? Before the game stating Beechwood had better playing surface than Somerset, after the game suggesting he needed more players in AGAIN!”

Ayr face a huge test to turn their recent poor form around as they welcome Dundee United on Friday night with the Arabs level on points with with home side.
