A DRUGS raid in Hawick recovered cocaine and cannabis, Jedburgh Sheriff Court has been told.

Police obtained a search warrant for Kelvin Clamp's home in the town's Loan on September 7.

During the search they found cocaine valued at £300 in pillow cases which his 38-year-old partner Shirley Page admitted belonged to her.

Two reefers. with a value of £2, were found in a bedroom cabinet which 32-year-old Clamp said belonged to him.

Clamp's lawyer said his client smoked the reefers to help him relax.

The solicitor representing Page of Borthaugh Road, Hawick, said she had a good work history as a carer for the elderly but had to give up the job two years ago due to a downturn in her mental health.

Page said she had decided to buy the cocaine to alleviate symptoms of depression.

Page pleaded guilty to possession of cocaine while Clamp admitted a cannabis possession charge.

Sheriff Peter Paterson said that while it was a small amount of cannabis, Clamp had previous convictions and fined him £60.

Turning to Page he said:"Possession of class A drugs of this amount is a serious matter."

He warned her she would not be getting fined if she appeared in court again on similar charges.

Page was fined £200.
