TWO TEENAGERS have been given driving bans and put under supervision after stealing a quadbike and driving down the wrong side of a carriageway.

The young boys who can’t be named for legal purposes, stole the vehicle from Colvinston Farm on Tarholm road in Annbank at around 3.45am on June 21 last year.

The 16- and 17-year olds broke into the farmers shed and proceeded to rally the quadbike around the fields at the back of the farm.

After hearing the distinctive sound of the bike, the farmer tried to confront the individuals before they made off on the vehicle with police who had been alerted following in pursuit.

Procurator Fiscal Mr McMillan told the court that: “The bike was seen to go around corners on two wheels and was driven down the opposite side of the road. Other drivers had to take action to avoid a collision.”

The disgruntled farmer said: “It happened in the middle of the night. We were worried about the bike initially and if we would get it back in one piece.

“It just shows you that people can come and steal things from your property when you’re not expecting it, we just need to be more vigilant.”

Sheriff Montgomery put both teenagers on a community payback order where they will be under supervision for 12 months. The two will also be suspended from driving for 12 months and will have to complete an extended driving test to obtain their licenses.
