A MAN has died after being hit by a train last week between Girvan and Stranraer.
Around 6pm on Saturday evening, December 1 paramedics were called to the scene but the man died on his way to hospital.
It is believed the man was struck by an oncoming train after stepping out on to the railway.
A statement from British Transport Police read: "Officers attended alongside paramedics and a man was taken to hospital but later sadly died whilst en route. His family have been informed.
"This incident is not currently being treated as suspicious and a report will be made for the Procurator Fiscal."
Rail services informed their customers of the incident which caused delays in some of the services in the area.
