SOUTH Ayrshire Council are reminding locals this week is their last chance to nominate someone for a Robert Burns Humanitarian Award (RBHA).

The deadline for nominations is this Friday, December 14 at 4pm and the winner will be announced at an awards ceremony in January – which will be a special occasion as it celebrates the 260th anniversary of the birth of Robert Burns.

The council are calling members of the public to give someone they know their deserved recognition for going out their way to improve the life of others and has inspired them through commitment and willingness to put the needs of others before their own.

The international award was created in honour Robert Burns and is for anyone regardless of nationality, race, age or gender who has gone above and beyond to help others.

As well as becoming a prestigious RBHA winner, the person picking up the award will collect the equivalent of 1759 guineas (approximately £1,800) which signifies the year of the Bard's birth and the coinage in circulation at the time.
