AYR’S station hotel building might be bought over next year following a Structural Engineers Report (SER), according to the action group campaigning for resolution.

The group of will have to wait until March 2019 for a full report following a third public meeting.

The good news, however, is that if things go well with the SER, the Scottish Historic Buildings Trust (SHBT) will take over the building and begin to work on ways to best facilitate its use.

Ayr has been let down by all angles of politics according to the station hotel action group. A spokesperson from them said: “The authorities have sat on this. Our council, Ayr's MP and MSP, NetworkRail as part owner, (and itself state owned), AbellioScotrail (plus the absent owner) have not cared about the fabric of the town. Legislation and grants could have helped a lot. Ayr has been let down at every political level.

“The action group now delayed third public meeting because of the Structural Engineers Report which we wanted. Now it seems it will be March 2019 before the Report so we will send out a Newsletter to our supporters soon.”

The group are also against new buildings being put in place of the old hotel, and have warned they have plans if things do not go straightforward in the coming months.
