A serial driving offender has been spared jail for a number of road offences.

Donald Rankine was disqualified from holding a driver’s license earlier this year but was caught driving a car on October 13. In addition, the car was found not to have insurance. The offences took place at Station Road in Monkton.

Sheriff Mhari MacTaggart waived Rankine of time in custody at Ayr Sheriff Court last Tuesday, November 20. She told him: “This did concern me as you were disqualified from having a license but here you are driving again.

“It could carry a custodial sentence. That cannot be allowed to continue. I’m now giving you a sentence that is an alternative to custody.”

Rankine has now been disqualified from obtaining and holding a driving license for a period of 24 months. He was also given a Community Payback Order which will be supervised for 18 months.
