AN Ayr man has been jailed for breaching a Drug Treatment Order which was served for numerous offences including threatening his wife with knives.

Alan McCormick from MacAdam Square in Ayr will spend two and a half years behind bars after failing to adhere to his methadone programme ordered by the court. McCormick’s charges date back to 2015 where he struck his wife on the head, dragged her by the body and presented knives to her. McCormick was also found to have taken his wife’s phone from her while continuing to behave aggressively, shouting and swearing at her.

He then barricaded the front door before sticking a knife in the wall. When police attended, he challenged them to fight.

After avoiding prison for the violence, the 40-year-old then, in 2017, broke into a car and stole an iPod and a purse where he retrieved a debit card and fraudulently used it to purchase cigarettes and alcohol.

McCormick spent £24 from the stolen card in Aldi on Viewfield Road before spending a further £28.21 in a Co-Op store in Sandgate.

The serial offender ran out of chances as he appeared at Ayr Sheriff Court on Tuesday, November 13 as he faced a shoplifting charge for stealing a power tool from Ayr’s Wilko store on High Street on August 28.

Defence solicitor Mr Steven Maxwell told the court that McCormick had struggled with his drug problem while facing some family issues. He said: “He would do anything he could to avoid custody. It’s fair to say that he was disillusioned by his father’s return, and his addictions outweighed everything else.”

McCormick appeared from custody last Tuesday having been remanded on November 7.

Sheriff Desmond Leslie told McCormick: “You are now in breach of your Drug Treatment Order. You have shown no regard whatsoever to deal with your addictions and that was the second time. You threw that back in my face.”

McCormick was sentenced to two years in prison for the original offences with an additional six month sentence for the latter which will run consecutively to a total of 30 months.
