A local Troon Optical Assistant has had her work recognised by national optical body ‘The Worshipful Company of Spectacle Makers (WCSM)’.

Tanya Monaghan was issued with a Level 2 Diploma award by Master Spectacle maker John McGregor OBE during an awards ceremony held in London last month.

The optical assistant has been working for Black and Lizars for four years and has since been promoted to a Clinical Assistant following the completion of the course.

Speaking on her achievement, Tanya explained: “Since I started my career with Black & Lizars, I’ve really discovered my own passion for taking the best steps possible when caring for customers and their eyesight.

“When the opportunity to build upon the skills I had learnt appeared with the WCSM, I leapt

at the chance, setting my sights on being able to deliver the best eye care services possible

for the people of Troon.

“I feel a huge sense of achievement completing the course and I’m hugely grateful to all my

colleagues, family and friends who have helped me build on my confidence and experience.”

Graham Freeman, Clinical Services Manager at Black & Lizars, added: ““Tanya is a great example of someone who has gone above and beyond to enhance her skillset and further improved the level of care she can provide. We’re looking forward to seeing her develop her skills even more over time.”
