NHS AYRSHIRE and Arran’s central Woodland Walk was officially opened by head of Mental Health Services, Themla Bowers.

The Ayrshire Central Woodland Walk can be used for walking, taking in nature or spending time relaxing or recuperating in peaceful surroundings. It has regular rest points and is wheelchair accessible and suitable for everyone.

Thelma Bowers, Head of Mental Health Services, said: “This path is a great way for our patients, staff, visitors and the local community to get out and enjoy the woodland.

Walking is one of the easiest forms of exercise to fit into our everyday lives. I would encourage everyone to use this new accessible space for leisure and for work purposes, including walking meetings whenever possible.”

The woodland has been used by local residents who are appreciating the area for dog walking as well as staff and patients who are able to increase physical activity. The opening ties in nicely with NHS Ayrshire & Arran’s WOW (Work On Wellness) campaign which encourages staff to be more active. This is the single greatest factor in improving physical and mental wellbeing for everyone.

NHS Ayrshire & Arran welcomes anyone based at, or visiting, the site to take some time to enjoy the new Woodland Walk.
