Cannabis drop court case

A man has been disqualified from driving and been ordered to carry out unpaid work after being caught with £1300 worth of cannabis.

John Donnelly of Argyle Park, Ayr, pleaded guilty to the charges at Ayr Sheriff Court last week.

At around 7pm on August 10, police stopped Donnelly in a silver Peugeot vehicle, just off Merrick Drive, due to a flickering head light. The police carried out a routine search on the vehicle ultimately finding 260.4g of cannabis worth a total of £1300.

After further checks, it was established that the 37-year-old was also driving without insurance.

Chris Munro, representing Mr Donnelly explained to the court that his client accepted responsibility and understood the seriousness of the situation and there was no rational thought during the process. He further added that Mr. Donnelly has since taken various steps on his own behalf to turn his life around.

Sheriff John Montgomery stated: “It would appear you have taken some steps to improve your lifestyle. By a very small margin I am not going to send you to jail.”

Donnelly was sentenced to 250 hours of unpaid work that is to be completed within six months. He was also disqualified from driving for six months.
