A man has been sentenced to fourteen months in prison after an assault on his ex-partner and masturbating in front of police officers.

Ryan Halliday of Ross Street, Ayr, pled guilty to the offences last week at Ayr Sheriff court while already in custody for breaching bail.

The procurator fiscal told the court of the initial incident in July this year where the 39-year-old assaulted his ex-partner by punching and slapping her around the body.

The alcohol infused attack was insinuated from the coming to terms of Halliday’s ex-girlfriend confiding in a new partner.

Cries for help from his ex-partner were heard from neighbours in which she screamed: ‘Help me! He has been doing this all night’.

The complainer managed to leave the premises around 9am the following day where she appeared at her mother’s home who proceeded to contact the police.

Halliday was placed on bail and ordered to not approach nor contact his previous partner which he failed to comply with on September 21.

Following this, Halliday was subsequently arrested and taken to Ayr Police office, King Street, where he behaved in a threatening and abusive manner towards officers, a court heard.

The 39-year-old thug continued to shout and swear and utter racial comments directed at one of the police officers.

Mr. Halliday then removed his erect penis from his underwear and proceeded to masturbate while staring at the officers.

Throughout the duration, Halliday was seen to act in a continual racially aggravated manner towards one officer along with excessive shouting and swearing.

Glenn Davis, representing Mr. Halliday said ‘This type of behaviour was ‘the norm’ from both parties when drink became involved. My client was also sporting injuries following the assault. He knows he should not have approached her while on bail and he understands this.”

Sheriff John Montgomery sentenced Halliday to a total of fourteen months in prison continuing from the time he has already served.
