SOUTH Carrick residents have been given more time to offer their thoughts on Girvan’s new all-weather pitch being built.

After high interest at the recent consultation event which seen over 200 people attend, South Ayrshire Council extended the deadline for comments to Friday, November 16. Girvan is currently the only town in the whole of Ayrshire without an all-weather pitch so it’s little wonder that so many want to have their say.

As the first stage in the project, the local community is being consulted about potential locations for the pitch alongside ideas for the kinds of activity that would take place, with potential sports including football, rugby, and hockey.

Some of the locations showcased at the event were Victoria Park; Hamilton park; Stair Park; and Ainslie Park. Locals are being urged to get involved with these conversations so they can have their say on specific uses such as five-a-side areas for example.

Councillor Peter Henderson said: “There are pros and cons for each option, so it’s up to the people to decide. It has to go to planning first and can then later be appealed if people aren’t happy with it.”

A budget of £850,000 was outlined in the Capital Investment Programme in March, with the work likely to take place in 2019/20.

Comments on potential locations and the general need for the project are now being accepted until Friday, November 16 to the email address: pds@south-ayrshire.gov.uk or through a comments sheet which can be found at the Girvan Customer Services Centre at 17-19 Knockcushan Street, Girvan, KA26 9AG.
