A creative project in Ayr recently gutted out space to launch its new premises which aims to build success through bread making.

FreshAyr’s new BREAD Arts Lab will be situated on Cathcart Street and will be an experimental place for artisan bread making – which will then be sold to fund creative activity in the area.

FreshAyr currently occupies two units in Sandgate as part of their creative arts organisation. Its main purpose is to make bread both literally and metaphorically to fund and support its projects.

It was set up as a voluntary organisation in October 2016 by three arts professionals and provides engagement opportunities to help social isolation and poverty.

Project leader, Robert Singer wants the continued success of FreshAyr to grow and encourage more people to get involved. He said: “We want to create opportunities with graduates. People that have left the area often move into the city to study so we want to bring more people here.

“We need help to do that, and working with different groups is important. We hope to get things up and running early next year and will have exhibitions in January.”

The new space is currently undergoing work to launch in January 2019, but FreshAyr organisers are welcoming proposals from everyone for exhibitions and events now.

Posting on Facebook, BREAD Arts Lab said: “We will consider proposals for exhibitions, workshops, talks, performances, social events, or anything you can think of. We will consider proposals from ANYONE, as BREAD Arts Lab is FOR everyone and anyone!

“If this tickles your taste-buds, please leave a note of interest here [on Facebook page], or email Blake at blakevenus@hotmail.com, who will send you an application form.”
