TWO Ayr Academy pupils successfully completed the Police Scotland’s Youth Volunteers (PSYV) programme last week.

Zoe Newman and Carolyn Doolan, both from S4, were part of a group led by a police constable aimed at strengthening the relationship between police and young people.

They attended a 10-week block with police volunteers and are now trained up to assist with stewarding at events with them - the first of which was a fireworks display at the weekend.

Part of their work involved volunteering at community and national events across Scotland where they gained valuable experience and got the chance to have their voice heard to promote good citizenship.

The programmed is open to young people aged 13-17 and is supported by adult volunteers of all walks of life.
